Photography — Jacopo Dotti
Jacopo Dotti's photographic practice stems from his training at the IUSVE in Venice-Mestre with photography critic Angelo Maggi, and develops in three coexisting directions: art photography as an authorial language, the documentation of cultural heritage, and the workshop as a research and teaching tool.
A work that considers photography not as a recording of reality, but as a tool for cultural interpretation—a way to understand and enhance a territory, a work of art, a community.
Research topics
Art photography and authorial research
Jacopo Dotti's personal photographic research focuses on the relationship between light, architecture, and memory. Images that investigate space, time, and perception, in dialogue with his installation practice and musical research. A gaze that favors geometric composition, natural light, and formal stillness as expressive tools.
Photography as a heritage archive
A central focus of Jacopo Dotti's photographic practice is the documentation of cultural heritage—Venetian villas, castles, historic buildings, and protected architectural complexes. This work combines photographic surveys, technical rendering, and visual research, often associated with the conservation restoration projects of Revolux Studios and Restauro Conservazione. Photography thus becomes a tool for conservation: what is to be restored must first be seen, understood, and archived.
The cultural reportage
Photographic reportage of events, exhibitions, festivals, shows, and cultural activities: a work that combines the artist's eye with that of a documentarist, capturing the atmosphere and narrative of each context. A clear, never rhetorical, approach that prioritizes people and the essence of the experience.
Workshops and teaching
Photography as a shared educational and research practice: experimental photography workshops in Venetian Villas, educational sessions for young photographers, and workshops focused on the region and cultural heritage.
Main projects
Photographic history and 3D reconstruction of the Bissari Castle — Costabissara (Vicenza), 2015
In collaboration with the IUAV University of Venice, the Municipality of Costabissara, and Dr. Elisa Bastianello, a photographic history and three-dimensional reconstruction of the Bissari Castle and Feud were created, included in the book "The Bissari Castle and Feud: Between History and Myth" (Omega Editions). A visual research project integrating photography, historiography, and digital reconstructed.
The Capitals of Camposampierese — Volume Cleup, Padua (2015)
Graphic design and photographic contribution to Laura Marcato's volume on the votive shrines of Camposampierese (Cleup, 2015). This work documents a minor but widespread feature of the Veneto landscape, presenting it as a collective cultural archive.
Photographic Workshop in the Venetian Villas — April 2019 - Experimental photography workshop in the most beautiful Venetian Villas in the Camposampierese area, in collaboration with the Federation of Municipalities of Camposampierese: Villa Querini (Camposampiero), Villa Baglioni (Massanzago), and Villa Ruzzini (Villanova di Camposampiero). A research and educational project to enhance and promote local culture and resources.
Photographic documentation for conservative restoration projects
Photographic surveys, visual restitutions, and archives for the conservative restoration interventions conducted by Revolux Studios and Restauro Conservazione: Villa Ca' da Ponte (Cadoneghe), Villa Collizzolli-Petri-Dall'Armi (Noventa Padovana), the former Quirino De Giorgio bowling alley (San Giorgio delle Pertiche), Villa San Giuliano – Zandonai (Pesaro), and other complexes under the protection of the Superintendency.
